Special Note Concerning Iron Prices: Sad Irons / Pressing Irons Prices are evolving:
After  20 years of steady increases in values, which culminated in a bubble burst, iron prices have now settled back to levels of the past.

Prices seen reflect actual recent sale results from this website or a general price that is more in line w/ today's market.
Irons pictured without prices represent earlier sales whose sale results are outdated and do not accurately reflect current market values.
Ebay results closely reflect current market values for many sad irons.  Check eBay completed / SOLD results to see current values for many antique irons.

laundry stoveAntique 2 Tier Laundry / Iron Heating Stove  This stove has a great look.  It breaks down into 3 pieces.  It will carry close to 16 or so irons and must have been used in a commercial or institutional setting.  The top swivel lid is a carefully redone replacement that is hardly detectable.  Stoves like this work great in a workshop setting on concrete floors where all the heat generated can be absorbed and evenly distributed.  Or they make for a great display in a corner for some of the highlights of the antique iron collection.

Delivery is available at my fuel costs along the West Coast when I am traveling, or I may be able to deliver it elsewhere headed east in the spring or fall of next year.

Good . . . . .  SOLD

Magee
Furnace Co. Sadiron Heating StoveMagee Furnace Co. Sadiron Heating Stove  Here is another example of a cast iron stove from the late 1800's that was designed specifically for heating pressing irons.  The idea with these stoves was that you could have numerous sadirons heating on the stove at all times so you would always have several hot ones ready to go.  The 7 inclined "shelves" along the sides of the belly of the stove are formed to securely hold 7 irons in their upright position, leaving the top of the stove available for a wash boiler and to keep the round removable stove plates accessible for adding more fuel to the fire.  These stoves are a great way to display a collection of irons.  This example is marked Magee Furnace Co. Boston.  There is a chip in the bottom edge that you can see in the pictures, but other than that the condition is very good.  Note the Queen of Hearts design on the legs which are charming replacements.

Good . . . . .  SOLD

Patented-Antiques.com Sells Antique IronsCarpenter & Co. of Boston Antique Sad Iron Heating Stove  This unusual design stove holds and heats twelve flatirons (all included).  Eight of them fit on the sloped sides around the middle, and the top holds 4 more.  This stove has been carefully restored.  This top pyramid shaped heater is separate and marked Reliable 93 on one side and S &T Co on the other.  There is no round lid to cover the hole on the top of the stove so the pyramid heater takes its place.  Be sure to look at all the pictures to see how nice the casting on the ash drawer and the ash plate are.  Early and unusual!

Dearie is Weary Sprinkle Plenty Sprinkler with Iron"Dearie is Weary" Sprinkle Plenty Sprinkler with Iron  The fun of collecting figural sprinklers is in the seemingly infinite variety of characters, personalities, and individualistic facial expressions that are portrayed.  This is considered one of the hardest to find and most popular.

patentglasssprinkler2.jpg (17445 bytes)Glass Bulb "Pat'd" Sprinkle Bottle  This laundry sprinkler has an unusual bulbous shape and that wonderful look of early glass.  It is marked with the letters "Pat'd" and the side, and the bottom is flattened to prevent it from ever rolling off the edge of the ironing board.  It's complete with its original perforated aluminum screw cap.  It's a nice one and in excellent condition.

Washboard
/ Scrub BoardWavy Washboard / Scrub Board  This one incorporates a wavy surface to help with the job and lends a different look to the design.  The thing to remember about these types of washers is that they were still being sold , designed, and even patented well into the 20th century.   To be used.  In other words, some folks had the new fangled Maytags or Easy washer, or other large and elaborate contraptions to help do the laundry, while the rest of the country and world was still walking down to the creek and having a go at the weekly chore with one of these.

Good . . . . . SOLD

Primitive Hand Held Washer / MassagerPrimitive Hand Held Washer / Massager  The collector had this in the collection.  I would have guessed it was a massager, but she may have been correct.  Perhaps it was marketed as both.   It is marked DRGM which I believe means Germany from before the war.

Good . . . . . .SOLD!

Antique Pump VacuumTwo Pump Vacuums  The vacuum on the left operated a bit differently from the norm.  While pushing it along you grabbed the handle and pumped the entire bellow up and down while navigating it along.  It must have been a popular idea as you can find this one pretty often, and with different names, but not in this condition.

On the right is the Home Vac.  It has a new and different idea where you used both hands to help get the suction going while getting a workout at the same time.

Left  . . . Very Good . . . . SOLD!

Right  . . . Very Good . . . .SOLD!

Antique Pillow Fluffer / Rug BeaterAntique Cast Iron and Leather Pillow Fluffer / Rug Beater  A tool for every job.  Don't beat your rugs or pillows anymore?  How about a new use for this as a sex toy?  American entrepreneurs and manufacturers use to fill the American consumers every need.  Antique fluffers make for very graphic wall hangers / displays and are a great remembrance of the "good old days".

This one is in super condition with patent info and manufacturer info on both sides in the cast handle.

3clothespins.jpg (24651 bytes)Unusual Mechanical Antique Wooden Clothespins  These clothespins are unlike any I have ever seen.  Dating from the 1920's, the story goes that they were designed by a great-great cousin of the woman back East that I bought 3clothespins2.jpg (24769 bytes) them from.  This fellow was obviously wildly creative, but like so many other inventors of his day he was a poor businessman.  Anyway, he took on a partner and together they applied for a patent on these clothespins.  The partner took off for California, and probably went on to a life of fame and fortune, or at the very least he enjoyed some real nice weather.  The cousin was left sitting in New Jersey with a bunch of wooden clothespins, which I now own!  The story is great, and the clothespins themselves are wonderful too.  They measure about 5" long and the way they work is that you squeeze the spring-loaded pin to open and release the "jaws" that would hold the article of clothing.  The third leg of the pin, which is tapered, hangs over the clothesline.  I have several of these antique clothespins available, and whether or not the patent was ever granted on them I do not know.  But my guess is that it is very possible they never went into widespread production, so these may be the only ones available.  I also have some repaired ones---can you imagine repairing a clothespin---so if you like examples of antiques that document that some people really did have too much time on their hands, be sure to inquire about those too!

Excellent . . . . . . $12.00  EACH!!  or 3 / $25.00    ALL  SOLD!!
