2-Piece
Double Pointed Ober Lace or Child's Iron
These 4 1/4" Ober Mfg. Co. two-piece center-mount removable-handle irons were
used by both children and adults for those hard-to-iron delicate-work pieces
a century or more ago. They are really hard to find except in long-time
collections, and unfortunately this example has a crack across the stretcher
bar which is shown in one of the pictures. Because of the spring-loaded
design of the handle it is held together pretty firmly despite the break, and
there is no problem latching and unlatching the handle from the base as it is
quite secure. I have priced it accordingly so you can consider it as a
good piece to put in the collection until such time that a better example makes
its way into your hands!
Good . . . . . $95.00 SOLD
A
Different Double Pointed Removable Handle Ober Child-Size Iron
This great little iron measures just 4" long, and is one of Ober's harder-to-find
versions in this size. The base of the iron is marked "G. H. Ober Pat
1895 Cha Falls O", and this example retains much of its original finish.
The handle is the classic Ober design, and it resembles one that was used on
one of the versions of their removable handle full-size irons. It features
the double end-mount latching design which was granted as a patent improvement
on their earlier center-mount design and ensured a more positive handle-to-base
attachment. This example is in super condition and is one that does not
come along very often.
Good . . . . . $195.00 SOLD
Rare
Ober No. 17 Child-Size Iron Here is a small Ober iron marked in a way that I have never before seen, nor
can I find it in any of the available reference material including Ober advertising.
It is identical in design, size, and handle style to Ober's hard-to-find model
No. 115, but this example is clearly marked with the model No. 17. If
any of you Ober collectors or iron collectors who live near Chagrin Falls, Ohio
know anything about this iron, I would welcome any input. Until then it
remains a mystery awaiting further research.
Good . . . . . $75.00 SOLD
Ober
No. 1 Child-Size Antique Sleeve Iron The fixed handled 4 1/2" sleeve iron is one of the hardest to find of all the
Ober irons. And just like all of the other irons that were manufactured
by this Chagrin Falls, Ohio firm, this model shows top notch craftsmanship and
great form. It is clearly marked with the company name cast into the top,
and ready to go on display!
Good . . . . . $195.00 SOLD
Good . . . . . $75.00 SOLD
3 Ober Detachable
Handle Irons Here are three more Ober Mfg. Co. of
Chagrin Falls, OH removable handle irons, one double pointed and two spade shaped.
Ober was a prolific maker of a quality product, and their namesakes / heirs
/ distant relatives are always looking for them.
Good . . . . . $40.00 / Each SOLD
Fixed
Handle DP Little Ober Iron Here's another one to help fill out the
antique Ober iron collection. This little double pointed sadiron measures
just 4" long and was made to the same exacting standards as the company's full-size
irons. It is clearly marked "Ober Chagrin Falls, O" and it still
retains traces of original silver finish.
Good . . . . . $125.00 SOLD
