Arcade
Crystal Wall-Mount Coffee Grinder
Although
this model is relatively common, this example is in uncommonly nice condition.
It is as close to mint as we have ever seen and looks to have never been used.
It is all original and complete with the properly marked "Freeport, Ill." catch-cup,
an item which is usually missing. They don't come much nicer than this!
Tin Litho Wall Mount
Vintage Coffee Mills
We have had & sold dozens of different style wall mount
coffee mills ranging from all metal varieties to the more common glass
jar variety. These tin litho ones that are our favorite of the wall
mounts. Over the years we passed on many nice
ones when our interests were aimed at other types of things. I
wish I had paid more attention as they have become very hard to find.
The
Telephone Coffee Mill by Arcade
This is an
interesting coffee mill made by the famous maker of cast iron grinders and other
cast iron kitchenware, The Arcade Manufacturing Co. of Freeport Ill.. It is
in very nice overall condition and includes the original catch cup. The tin
screw lid is missing. The wood is nice and has a great patina. These
were made to be mounted to the wall as the handle extends past the base as it revolves.
It is operational and ready for show or use. A hard to find grinder.
The
Star Mill Coffee Grinder
This unusual
Coffee Mill / Grinder, "The Star Mill", is from Philadelphia and if far rarer
than a comparable Enterprise coffee grinder. It is the size of a #7 mill and
is the type that would sit on the end of the counter in a large General Store back
near the turn of the century The condition of the paint on this grinder is
wonderful, and the stars on the wheels are a great touch. The wheels measure
22" and the internal mechanism is intact and operational. The brass top hopper
has some nickel loss and the lid needs to be soldered back on, but overall it still
looks pretty good. Mills this size that have not been restored and are this
nice with their original paint are becoming ever more difficult to find. In
the right setting this will make a great addition to the decor or overall effect
in that special setting.
Coles
#2 Size Coffee Mill
These #2 size coffee grinders by makers other than
Enterprise and L. F. & C. are becoming very difficult to find. This is a very
early example and in all likelihood dates from the last quarter of the 1800s. The paint is pretty good
with some areas showing chipping and loses, but overall it is very nice. The
Coles name and the location of Phila. Pa. are cast into both of the wheels which
measure 9 3/4" across. The paint and gold highlighting on these are very good.
The decals are here, and may clean, but look worn. The one apology is a small
chip out of one corner on the original cast iron drawer. The adjuster for
determining the grind is present and operable. The wooden base is original
and very nice as well. A nice example of a hard to find grinder
Small
Cast Iron Table Top Coffee Mills
The
unusual grinder on the left is known as the New Model Grinder, and hails from Freeport
Ill. It is simple in design, and yet holds a fascination for us because of
this simplicity.
Cast
Iron LF&C Coffee Mill
This grinder
is by Landers Frary & Clark They are often damaged, but this one is
nice.
Erie
Lap Mill Style Cast Iron Coffee Grinder
The condition of the rare
and desirable coffee mill is second to none. In addition to the Erie cast
into the lid, this one also has the name and location of a famous early
Hardware company that was in Syracuse New York back during the late 19th
century. We have had and seen the Grand Union version of this grinder
numerous times, and have owned the version marked Griswold a couple times, but
this is the first time we have seen this variation, and have never seen a nicer
condition example in any configuration. A rare and desirable piece by any
measure.
