Stanley Victor # 20 Compass PlaneStanley Victor # 20 Compass Plane  This super condition plane sports 98% of its original japanning.  It is in stunning condition and looks to have seen little if any use.  Looking for a box!! None nicer!!

Fine +. . . . .  $ 225.00      SOLD!!

Stanley # 164 Low Angle PlaneStanley # 164 Low Angle Plane   The #164 low angle plane is one of the rarest and hardest to find of all Stanley planes. Stanley offered this plane for about 17 years beginning in the early 1920's.

The condition is exceptional with over 97% of the original japanning and finish remaining.  The Rosewood handles are in fine condition with nearly 100% of their finish.  The throat is nice and the moveable front piece operates properly and is damage free.  It was used, as the cutter is short.  Lie Nielsen makes a version of this plane, and they have replacement cutters.

A super piece suitable for a spot on the top shelf in any Stanley collection!!

Fine . . . . . $1600.00        SOLD!!      Note: This plane use to routinely sell for $2,000.00 or more at auction or privately.  Times and values change, and not always upward.

Stanley # 144 1/4 Rounding PlaneStanley # 144 1/4" Rounding Plane  Nice.  It still has nearly all of its original finish. Good cutter.  No apologies.

Good +   . . . . . .  $150.00        SOLD!!

Stanley Cabinet Makers Low Angle # 9 Miter Plane w/ Hot Dog Handle# 9 Stanley Low Angle Cabinet Makers Miter Plane w/ Hot Dog Handle  This # 9 Stanley miter plane looks pretty good but it does have some issues.  There is some damage on one side I have shown in the pics.  It is hard to see, but there is a hairline crack in the side about 1" in front of the throat running up from the sole.  There is a slight indent in the side at that point.  It will never affect use, and this will be a great user, but it is there.  The other issue is the lever cap off of a Sargent plane.  There is no damage to the tail or areas around it.  The cutter is nice with an early logo.  The hotdog handle has been polished, but is "right". Tune it up and put it back to work.

Fair - . . . . .$495.00         SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 Sweetheart Era Cabinet Makers / Piano Makers Low Angle Miter PlaneStanley # 9 Sweetheart Era Cabinet Makers / Piano Makers Low Angle Miter Plane This is an earlier and longer version of the # 9 miter plane.  Note the longer tail and front piece than on the one above or other later examples.  It has a nice J logo cutter.

This example has been carefully lapped and is damage free. There is some missing paint inside at the rear.  It may have been repaired by Bradstreet at some point, but it is invisible if so.  There is no discoloration, no pock marks or other tell tale weld signs just some missing paint.  The throat is nice and there is lots of life left in the cutter.  It also has the proper long neck solid lever cap.   A nice example of a hard to find plane.  Nice!!

Good   . . . . .  $550.00      SOLD!!

Stanley #40 Scrub PlaneStanley #40 Scrub Plane  This is the nicest example of Stanley's popular and versatile scrub plane that I have ever had.  Note the decal on the handle in the second picture.  This one is equipped with the optional straight cutter.  No problems, and no disappointments here!

Excellent  . . . . . . $125.00        SOLD

Stanley #96 Chisel PlaneStanley #96 Chisel Plane  This is the interesting 1/4" chisel plane that Stanley first introduced back in 1888.   This version dates from just after the turn of the century with Stanley in block letters on one side.  There is pitting on that side, and half of the name has disappeared, but the plane itself is still OK, and this will make for a good user.  The idea was you could peel up a sliver of wood, set a small nail or screw, and then glue the sliver back down for an invisible connection.  They did think and do things differently back then.

Good . . . . . $60.00       SOLD!!

Stanley # 378 Weatherstrip PlaneStanley # 378 Weatherstrip Plane  This unusual special use weatherstriping plane is in unused mint condition.  The box is near perfect as well.  The rods which are often missing are present.  There is one cutter and 3 depth stops.  Very nice!!

Good + . . . . . . $295.00         SOLD

Stanley #51 / 52 Shoot Board PlaneStanley # 51 /52 Shoot Board Plane  A nice example of a hard to find plane.

Good + . . . . . . $1295.00         SOLD

Stanley #340 Furring PlaneStanley # 340 Furring PlaneThe # 340 Furring Plane  is one of  the rarest & most unusual  planes that Stanley ever produced, and this example is in super overall condition.  These furring planes were only produced for a short 12 year span (1905-1917) which was during Stanley's period of near total dominance of the metallic plane and woodworking tool market.  They were continually developing  and introducing many of the rare and unusual specialty planes during this period, which was their heyday period of plane manufacture and development.  It was the coming of the new-fangled electrical period and the start of the 1st World War that put an end to this period in Stanley's colorful history, not a lack of ideas, or quality, or dissatisfaction on their customers part.   It was just a new era after the war, and they were compelled to change with it, or fall behind, thus resulting in the short manufacturing period of some very rare planes that they had developed. This example retains nearly 90% of its original but thin black japanned finish, even on the sole, and it is rust or pit free on the exposed metal surfaces.  The cutter is 5.5 inches long, and is stamped Patent Ap'd For, along with the Stanley J Trademark Logo, thus making it a Type 1 and dating its manufacture to between 1905 - 1910.  The proper beech handle and knob are in super condition also.  These rare planes are not offered up very often, so if you have an empty hole on the shelf this one will work nicely!!

Excellent / Fine . . . . . .$995.00         SOLD

Stanley # 97 Cabinet Maker Edge / Chisel PlaneStanley # 97 Cabinet Maker Edge / Chisel Plane  This is a nice Stanley #97 Plane.  The leading edge of the plane has a small irregularity on one side.  It is less than 1/16th and could easily be worked out if one wanted.  The cutter is full length and there is no pitting or rust.  The plane retains well over 90% of the original japanning and there is just a nice even patina on the exposed areas.  A nice looking plane in nice condition!!

Good +  . . . . . .$295.00        SOLD!

Stanley #97 Cabinet Makers PlaneStanley # 97 Cabinet Makers Chisel Plane   According to the book, this plane has the wrong cap.  But given where I found it and the circumstances surrounding the purchase, I find it hard to imagine how that came to be.  It is certain that no one did it purposely and the fact that the cap is japanned leads me to believe that it may be proper.  I believe that the prototype model that was offered up at Browns auction a while back was also fitted with a similar cap.  In any case the rest of the plane is in superior condition, retains nearly all of its original finish and has just a nice even patina on the exposed metal parts.  The front corners are proper and there is plenty of cutter left as well.  Different and Nice!!

Good . . . . .$225.00         SOLD

Stanley #62 Low Angle Block PlaneStanley #62 Low Angle Cabinet Makers Plane This is the nicest example of Stanley's popular and versatile low angle cabinet makers plane that I have had in a long time.  Note the condition of the rosewood handle.  The throat area which is oftentimes damaged is perfect.  The japanning is near perfect.  The front knob does not have any problems and still retains its original finish.  This plane was not used more than a couple of times.  The condition is second to none and a nicer example will not be found easily.

Good +. . . . .$495.00      SOLD      Note: These are routinely selling for half this in todays market

Stanley #164 Butcher Block PlaneStanley #164 Plane  This plane is in pretty nice condition.  It is considered one the the hardest to find of all planes that Stanley produced.  They were introduced in 1926 and production ended with the beginning of the war.  Some have speculated that there was only one production run and then this supply was offered over the next 20 or so years.  The adjusting mechanism is vertical and very tricky to get to operate, a factor that probably held back sales and plays a factor in its limited availability and super rarity. The cutter on this one is the rectangular block, thus dating it from near the end of the offering.  The handle has a tight hairline in it that I do not think has been glued, but it is still stable. The front knob is nice, but there is a small chip in the boss where the rod screws into the moveable throat piece.  This area still works properly but there is a relief at this point.   The japanning is well over 95% and looks good.  The sides are nice, and there is very light pitting or texture on the sole. This would lap out easily if so desired.

Good +. . . . .$1750.00         SOLD

Stanley #144 Rounding PlaneStanley # 144 3/8" Corner Rounding Plane  This plane is in very nice condition and there is little sign of use.  It still retains most of its japanned finish, and there is no rust or pitting to speak of.   The size designation is clearly stamped in the bottom as well.  Ready for the bench or shelf!

Good. . . . . .  $295.00        SOLD

Stanley #144 Corner Rounding Plane3 Stanley #144 Corner Rounding Planes   All three of theses are a different size and reperesent the 3 sizes offered.     The size designation is clearly stamped in the bottom as well.  Ready for the bench or shelf!

Good . . . . .$295.00  / Choice        All SOLD

Stanley #56 Core Box PlaneStanley # 56 Core Box Plane   This is a super condition and very desirable example of one of Stanley's rarest and hard to find planes that they produced.  This planes patent was taken out in 1909, and Stanley offered for sale the same year.  It was only offered until 1923 when stocks produced before the War ran out and no more were made.  It is a rare plane.  This example still sports 95% or more of the original japanning.  The exposed faces are very nice with just some spotting and no pitting or rust.  It is one of the nicest of these that I have had over the years.

Fine . . . . . .$850.00        SOLD

Stanley # 57 Core Box Plane w/ Aux WingsStanley # 57 Core Box Plane w/ Aux Wings   This one looks to have been assembled over a period of time.  It is all origial parts and correct, it is just that the patina of the wings is different.

Fine . . . . . .$695.00          SOLD

Stanley #71 Router PlaneStanley # 71 Router Plane w/ Original Box   This one is like new.  The nickel is bright, and it has the guide and 3 cutters

Excellent . . . . .$150.00      SOLD     Note: As of 2015 these routers are one of the few bright spots in the world of Stanley Planes with some selling for over $200 these days.  Use to be one would kick them out of the way looking for something better.  No longer.  How long will it last?

Stanley # 71 Router PlaneStanley # 71 Router Plane  The condition of the plane / router itself is nice.  It is an early japanned version with 90% or more of the original japanning.  Given the way it is marked w/o the Stanley name or #, and just the patent info I believe it is a type 1 dating from 1885 - 1886.   The cutters are from a later model with the adjustment slots near the top.

Good +. . . . . . . $95.00    SOLD!!

Stanley # 72 1/2 Chamfer Plane W/ Beading Attachment & BullnoseStanley # 72  Chamfer Plane & 72 1/2 Chamfer Plane W/ Beading Attachment & Bullnose    Stanley offered this plane in different configurations over the years.  You could buy just the chamfer plane as shown on the left, or with the bullnose, or add the beading attachment separately.  On the right is a complete #72 1/2 in very nice condition.

Stanley # 271 Router Stanley # 271 Router   This Stanley #271 router  is in nice condition.  It is a USA model.  They are still being made in England.  They are a handy little tool for close in applications and cleaning out corners for hinges and the like.

Excellent   . . . . . . $75.00        SOLD!

Stanley #L20-83E-HFL Shuttle PlaneStanley #L20-83E-HFL Shuttle Plane  This unusual Stanley Shuttle Plane is in nice original condition.  These planes were used in the textile industry to shape or size shuttles in industrial settings.  They were never offered in the standard catalogs and were a specialty item produced for this specific industry.  There are a few different variations known, and most are found like this with no parts of the frame or track that it ran in.    At first glance these could be mistaken for a Bedrock with the flat top side rails, but they are that way to attach the missing frame to.  The tags indicate that the collector bought this from Roger Smith in 1991.  A nice example of a hard to find plane.

Good + . . . . . .$795.00      SOLD!

Stanley #71 Router Plane in Original BoxStanley # 71 Router Plane in Original Box   Sweetheart Era.  The cutters still have their original wrap on them.  Mint and Never Used.

Excellent +  . . . . . . $50.00 - $200.00     SOLD!!    Note: As of 2015 these routers are now one of the few bright spots in the world of Stanley Planes with some selling for over $200 these days.  Use to be one would kick them out of the way looking for something better.  I mean even the ones made in England which use to sit unsold at $40.00 and which cost no more than that brand new from the shop are now selling for 150.00 or more.  Crazy

Stanley # 39 5/8 Dado PlaneStanley # 39 5/8 Dado Plane   This one is OK.  It is complete, and an example of you get what you pay for. It is stained, but not pitted.  There is a lot of finish missing.

Stanley # 444 Dovetail PlaneStanley # 444 Dovetail Plane  The Stanley #444 dovetail plane is one of the oddest planes made by Stanley.  It was offered for a little over 25 years beginning in 1912. This example is in its original box, but appears to have had some restoration work done on it.  It appears to have been chrome plated at some point, and I believe the spur blocks are recast replacements.  I do not see any damage, welds, or pitting, but it has been worked over.  The box of cutters is present, with 3 in it, and 1 in the plane making for a full set.  The instruction on the lid are readable and there is an instruction pamphlet.

Good . . . . . .$675.00   SOLD!!

Stanley # 40 1/2 Scrub PlaneStanley # 40 1/2 Scrub Plane   The #40 1/2 is the larger version of the more common #40 scrub plane.  This example is all original and the nicest condition I have seen in years.  There are still remains of the decal on the handle,  The cutter is marked with the sweetheart logo, and is full length.  This plane looks to have never been used, and is waiting to go back to work or put high up on the shelf it is so nice.   Nice!!

Stanley #171 Door Plane & Router w/ Original Fence & Rods   This nice example is basically damage free other than some missing japanning and some staining on the sole.   It still retains approx 90% or more of the original finish. The wood is nice and original.    These are one of the most unusual of all special use planes that Stanley produced, but its usefulness ran into the electric router and its production period was short lived.  There are two original cutters included, with  the 5/8" missing.

Good . . . . .$375.00       SOLD

Stanley # 64 Butcher Block Low Angle PlaneStanley # 64 Butcher Block Low Angle Plane   The #64 Stanley Butcher Block Plane is one of the hardest of all Stanley planes to find.  And to find one complete with both cutters and in like new unused condition is really rare.  It is near dead mint with over 98 % of the original japanning and finish.  The Beech handles are in fine condition with nearly 100% of their original finish.  There is just some shelf dust from where it sat on the collectors shelf for the last 30 years or so.  It has both cutters and they show no signs of use or having been sharpened.  Stanley only offered this plane for about 8 years ending production in the early 1920's.  A super piece suitable for a place on the top shelf of any Stanley Tool collection!!

Fine . . . . .$1975.00    SOLD!

Stanley # 20 Compass PlaneStanley # 20 Compass Plane   This Stanley # 20 compass plane is very nice.  It is the plane of choice for convex or concave work due to it design and construction. Minor staining and nearly all of its original japanning. Original grind on the full length cutter.  Nice.
