Saw Makers Hammers You can find saw
makers hammers from time to time, and they are usually found one at a time and / or at tool shows
or tool auctions. The collector
got these as a set, and his tag mentions that he got
11 for one money at one location. Well here are 9 from
that
set of 11, and what looks to be another dog face he got elsewhere. In addition to
the dog face versions, there are also straightening hammers, and the very interesting
looking cross face hammers. Be sure to look at all of the
It is a rare find to have them all together, and that
is
the way I want to sell them.

F.
Raniville Co. Gd. Rapids Mich. Beltmakers Since 1874 Advertising Hatchet / Hammer A
rare and unusual advertising hammer / hatchet combo tool.
The layout for the
wording leaves a bit to be desired unless you were wanting the looker /
reader to ponder what it all meant. A workable strategy I suppose. At first
look it seems to read Franiville Co., and things come up for that, but the real name is F.
Raniville Co. of Grand Rapids Michigan and one can find leather belting
catalogs and other products under that name. Gd. stands for Grand, as in
Grand Rapids.

30" NOS Baker & Hamilton Blacksmith Bellows
This super piece of California history is 48" tall
x 30" across, is NOS, and was never used. When I got it still had the
original pieces of leather strapping holding it shut. Over the years there
was some drying of the leather, but I believe that between the softening treatments
I gave it, and the ones that you give it, this great piece will still be serviceable.
There is one small 3" tear in the leather up near the nozzle end on one side, but
this would be repairable without redoing all of the leather. The overall condition
is wonderful and the stencil coming from California's most famous Hardware store
is super. You just do not see them in this sort of condition, ever.
Good . . . . .$395.00 SOLD

Peter
Wright 202 lb Wrought Iron Blacksmiths Anvil
This anvil is by one of the premier English makers and is a pretty nice
example. It measures approx 27" long and is about 5" across with a
1" hardy hole. The weight designation is stamped on the front face
1- 3 - 6. So is the Peter Wright name and solid wrought stamp.
There are some dents and dings on the face from where the last user used
this area to work. This anvil has
a nice solid ring to it, and good rebound. There is minimal chipping
along the edge, and no other damage to be noted. A nice piece!!
Free pick-up, or delivery by me along the west coast for a reasonable
amount. Freight to
other locations can be worked out.
Good +. . . . . . $500.00
SOLD!!
400
lb. Blacksmith Anvil
This Large / Heavy Forged
Blacksmith Anvil weighs approx. 400 lb. The
dimensions are listed off below. In trying to figure out the
weight and using sizes of other similar anvils, or a rough formula I found
for determining anvil weights, it is 400 lbs. or more. I
also took it to the local feed store to get it weighed, and their digital scale errored out
as it approached 400. They said that meant it weighed more than the
400 lb. capacity of the scale. To get it out of the truck I had
to use a block and tackle with 5 pulleys, and it was still a chore to lift
it.
I see no maker name or weight numbers on the sides or on the
base. The only markings I can find are the two # 2's on either side of
the moving hole under the horn. (see Pics). I know they DO NOT
represent the weight as stamped numbers sometimes can.
The edges are pretty clean and I see no other damage.
Again, look at all the pics. It has an even high pitched ring, and good
rebound when hit with a hammer. The one other feature of note I see
that might help identify it are the
notches on both sides at the bottom. I did not see that feature on any other
anvils in all the pics I looked at trying to identify this. If there
is somebody out there that knows the maker, I would be happy to learn it.
Thanks.
This
anvil can be picked up here in Northern
CA, or I will deliver it along the west coast on my schedule for a
reasonable fee. I will be driving to Texas and beyond in late summer,
but that is months away. Beyond that
it is going to be dropped off at a shipping place strapped on a pallet and shipping /
freight costs are on the buyer.
