Sargent # 37 Skew Rabbet Plane in Box Fine condition. Very nice early
and hardest to find size of this unusual Sargent plane. It is a
near exact copy of the Stanley 39 series of skew rabbet planes. Sargent numbered
their version a bit different. All sizes started with a 3, and the
second number indicated the 1/8, hence a # 37 is 7/8" wide. The box
has some minor damage. The plane looks to have been used once put back
in the box and forgotten for close to 80 - 100 years. Fine . . . . . $250.00

proper cutter w/ stamp faint. No rust or pitting. You can still see the
milling marks on the sole. Good throat.
The tag indicates I sold this
to the collector in July of 1991. 30 years ago. It is one of those planes I'll

garage sale in Florida. Interesting and nice.Good + . .

Sargent
507 Rabbet Block Plane Great condition.
The 507 is a better design than the Stanley 140 Rabbeting Block Plane in one way, but because of that feature
with the opening on both sides it is a weaker design and is oftentimes is
found cracked in the cheek area on either side. This one is damage free and still has
90% or more of the japanning. The cutter has plenty of life left in it
as well. A nice example. Good . . . . . $195.00 SOLD!!

Sargent
Shaw Patent # 7 C (# 2 Size) Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane This is a
very
nice example of Sargent's Shaw Patent # 7 a very hard to find # 2 size plane. The Shaw's Patent plane was
Sargent Tool Co's. answer to Stanley's Bedrock design. They were only
offered for about 8 years beginning in 1910. An interesting idea, but
not nearly as elegant as Stanley's Bedrock design and so never became as
popular making them much harder to come by.
This example retains 90% or better of the
original japanning with most missing on one of the inside cheeks. The
proper cap is marked 7 on the backside and VBM for Very Best Made out front. The Mahogany tote
and knob are solid, very nice and look great. Nice long Sargent cutter marked 7.
No rust or pitting to speak of, and has not been over cleaned. Good
honest patina. A rare opportunity to add a great Sargent Tool
Co. piece to the tool collection.
Fine . . . . . $700.00
SOLD!!
Sargent
2204 Block Plane w/ Steel Body
This little plane is a favorite with users.
With its folded steel design it is near indestructible. Works well and is
easy to use. It is in great condition. Nice!!
Fine . . . . . . $50.00
SOLD!!
Sargent
No. 105 Tailed Block Plane Cutter
is unmarked. There is no markings on the plane body. Identical to a Stanley # 100 tailed block plane, but I believe it is
made by Sargent given the exaggerated hump of the side rail. That
would make it a #105. Given the lack of marks it was probably sold
to a different retailer or regional hardware store of the era. Nice!!Good + . . . . . $30.00
SOLD!!
Sargent
#407 (#2) Smooth Plane This is a pretty
nice example. The cap is marked VBM for Very Best Made. The Mahogany tote has been
glued, is solid, and looks OK. Nice long proper cutter.
Nice enough. Good + . . . . . $150.00
SOLD!!
Sargent
# 22 C (7 size) Shaw's Patent Corrugated Jointer Plane
Shaw Patent planes, with their odd frog design, were Sargent Tool Company's counter to the
Stanley Bedrock design. They work OK once properly set up, but the design is
not nearly as elegant as the Bedrock design with the captive pins that are
easy to get at, and the machined frog to body design. The Shaw patent looks
similar and has the same general idea, but it is not nearly as well
executed. It was not as well
received by the public either, and so are far harder to find that the
equivalent size Stanley Bedrock.
This example has a
proper size cutter but is marked 18. Also the rear handle looks like it
might be a Rosewood replacement.
Good + . . . . . $165.00
SOLD!!
Sargent
# 18 C (6 size) Corrugated Bottom Shaw's Patent Fore Plane
Shaw Patent planes, with their odd frog design, were Sargent Tool Company's counter to the
Stanley Bedrock design. The idea works OK once properly set up, but the design is
not nearly as elegant as the Bedrock design with the captive pins that are
easy to get at, and the machined frog to body design. The Shaw patent looks
similar and has the same general idea, but it is not nearly as well
executed. It was not as well
received by the public either, and so examples are far harder to find that the
equivalent size Stanley Bedrock.
This example is pretty nice. The cutter is the proper size cutter but is marked
10 being from a rare model the size of a 4 1/2.
The body is nice. The wood is proper and nice. The frog looks to
have been repainted. Good + . . . . . $125.00
SOLD!!

The body is nice.Fair + . . . . . $75.00

90% or better of the original japanning. The proper 422 C marked cutter is full length and nice. Good wood. No
rust pitting or other damage. Note that the lever cap is marked

counter to the Stanley Bedrock design. They work OK once properly set up,
but the design is not nearly as elegant as the Bedrock design with the
captive pins that are easy to get at, and the machined frog to body design.
The Shaw patent looks similar and has the same general idea, but it is not
nearly as well executed. It was not as well received by the public either,
and so are far harder to find that the equivalent size Stanley Bedrock.

proper #14 cutter. The rear handle has a crack at the base that is
solid.Good + . . . . . $120.00

Sargent
1068 - 1067 Combination Tongue & Groove Planes Sargent made some very
innovative and interesting designed planes and these T & G planes they offered fall
into that category nicely. These are both complete and damage free, but as
with many of their products the nickel is weak. There is a 1068 & 1067 offered
as a pair.
Good . . . . .$ 225.00 / Pair SOLD
Sargent
# 1508 1/2 "Lady Bug" Rabbet & Dado Plane This was Sargent's
answer to the Stanley #90 series of planes and came in a range of sizes
much like the Stanley 90 -94. Sargent went a step further and also
offered these with an optional fence and depth stop. Those would be
referred to with a 1/2 after the main number like 1508 in this case. In
other words it is proper and to be expected that many of these planes do
not have the fence / rod and depth stop, even if the body is drilled for
them. This one does. They were offered as an accessory.
Good . . . . .$ 2250.00 SOLD
Sargent
507 Rabbet Block Plane This Sargent 507 rabbet

"Zenith"
Marshall Wells # 409 C (4 Size) Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane
Sargent made this plane for Marshall Wells. The Zenith logo etch on both sides is clearly visible. It is also on the cutter. The

Zenith
Shaw's Patent #4 Size Smooth Plane by Sargent
This plane was made by Sargent for the Marshall Wells
Hardware Co who used Zentih as their brand name. They stamped / etched their
distinctive logo into
both sides and the cutter is marked as well. It is a Shaw's patent with
its Stanley Bedrock like idea for attaching the frog to the body. It was
not nearly as well thought out or as elegant or even well executed idea, but is
certainly different from the norm. It is all here, and all OK. Used
but not abused.Good + . . . . . $ 75.00
SOLD!!
Sargent

Sargent Shaw's Patent # 8 Smooth
Plane This model plane was Sargent's
answer to the ever popular Stanley Bedrock series of planes. With its unusual
frog design and 3 screw adjusting mechanism, it ranks as one of the hardest and
most desirable of all Sargent planes to collect or use. This plane is in super
original condition still retaining nearly all of its original black japanning and
its exposed metal parts are rust and pit free. The Mahogany knob and handle
are very nice as well. This plane has never been cleaned or messed with and
is in excellent untouched original condition. A tough one to find in this
size and condition.

free. The body still retains approx 90% of the original finish, while there

Sargent #407 Type 2 (#2 size) Smooth Plane
This is a very nice example of an early plane by Sargent Tool Co. one of the major
competitors of Stanley in the plane manufacturing business early in the last century.
Being a type 2 dates this plane from before 1910. This plane retains most
of its original japanning, and has a rich and even patina with no pitting or rust
to speak of. The early, proper and original Rosewood handle and knob are very
nice as well. The one apology is that the cutter has been replaced at some
point with a Stanley one that dates from the teens. A tough plane to find.
Good . . . . .$ 225.00 SOLD
Sargent #
722 Tilt Knob Jointer Plane Sargent's Auto
set line of planes was very popular and a well made plane. The 722
was the largest they offered and had an unusual tilting front knob.

Sargent Scrub Planes This group of planes
may not look special to the casual observer, but all metal Sargent scrub planes
are becoming pretty hard to find, and that two cutter model in the middle is one
of the rarest of all planes that Sargent ever produced. These Sargent scrub
planes are the #161, #161, & #162 and date from the teens into the 20's or so with
the rare 162 only having been made in one production run. The #162 is often
found missing pieces as they were very hard to adjust and oftentimes the owner just
took out 1 cutter and a cap and used it with just one cutter.
Good . . . . .$1750.00 SOLD
Sargent #407 Smooth
Plane w/ Brass Name Plaque
This is a rare variation of the Sargent #407 / 2 size plane. Very few
of these are found with this plaque and even fewer in the small #2 size.
The condition is nice, and the cutter proper. No damage or problems.
The tag on the side indicates the collector bought this from Dave Paling the
famous California dealer back in 1981. A nice plane, and a hard one to
find.
Good+ . . . . .$ 375.00 SOLD!
Sargent #29
Rabbet Plane
This is a great looking plane. The cap is the brass
plaque style and a rare variation. The cutter is near full length with
plenty of life in it. There is no rust or pitting, and the wood is nice as
well. It will be a
great user, or is nice enough for the shelf. Fine
. . . . . .$ 275.00 SOLD!
Sargent #407 (#2) Smooth Plane
This looks OK. The handle has been glued and refinished,.
The front
knob is Rosewood and not Mahogany like the handle. Otherwise it looks
right.
Good + . . . .$ 150.00 SOLD!!
Sargent Auto Set # 707 (#2) Smooth Plane
Sargent made 3 different versions of #2 size planes. The Shaw's Patent
which was numbered
#7, the number 407 which had typical design, and this the #707 which is referred to as an Auto Set. This looks like a nice
plane but has two issues. The top rim of the lever cap is damaged.
It holds the adjuster down and in place. It has popped off and been re-attached.
It is not permanent. (see pic) There is also a small crack at the side
in front of the throat. It turns the corner and goes about an 1/8" on
either surface. It does not reach the throat, but it is there. The wood
is original and nice. The cutter is proper, marked and nice. A nice
looking but slightly damaged small smooth plane with some good parts.
Fine . . . . . $150.00
SOLD!!
Marshall Wells / Zenith
2 C Corrugated Bottom Smooth Plane

clear on both side rails as well as the cutter stamp. There is no pitting or damage. The
japanning is well over 90%. Nice wood. A super hard to find plane in top shelf
