Stanley # 9 1/4 Block PlaneStanley # 9 1/4 Block Plane This is the basic design for all Stanley block planes. It is 6" long and has a non-adjustable front.

Good  +. . . . . .$65.00           SOLD

Excelsior Style Stanley # 9 1/2 Block PlaneEarly Excelsior Style Stanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane   Used but OK.   Good throat and cutter with no structural issues.

Good . . . . . $50.00     SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane in Original Box Stanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane in Original Box  The plane is like new.  Used a few times and spent the rest of its life on the shelf.  The box is a bit tattered.  It will make for a great user!

Fine . . . . . $75.00             SOLD!!

Stanley Type 3 Excelsior Style 9 1/2 Block Plane w/ EtchStanley Type 3 Excelsior Style 9 1/2 Block Plane w/ Etch  A early and rare Stanley block plane I wish was in a bit nicer condition. You can see traces of the Bailey Imp etch on the side. The main apology is the throat chip. After that is is actually pretty nice. It is what it is.

I had one of these probably 40 years ago with a good etch and sold it at a tool meeting for a bit of a premium over a typical one, but also a bit under the money. Watched Dave Paling sell it later in the day for $2500 with an tail added.  Another lesson learned.

Good - . . . . . $125.00       SOLD!!

WWII Era Stanley # 9 1/2 Block PlaneWWII Era Stanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane  This WWII era Stanley No. 9 1/2 block plane is in nice overall condition. Note it as no handy feature on the sides. Stanley cutting corners to help w/ the war effort. A very nice clean example. It will be a great user.

Fine  . . . . .  $40.00          SOLD!!

Stanley No. 9 1/2 Block Plane "Made in Canada"Stanley No. 9 1/2 Block Plane "Made in Canada" This 9 1/2 is a bit of an oddity. It is a 9 1/2 marked on the bed, and cutter made in Canada. I do not know the exact history or dating, but it is pretty unusual to see or find. It has seen use, but has no structural issues and could be used as is, or detailed out to be nicer. A good worker that could easily be cleaned up to look better.

Good + . . . . . $40.00         SOLD!!

Early Excelsior Style Stanley # 91/2 Block PlaneEarly Excelsior Style Stanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane   Pre lateral model.  C. 1880 or before.  Nice enough.

Good + . . . . . $50.00      SOLD!!

Excelsior Style Stanley # 91/2 Block Plane w/ Handy Feature Excelsior Style Stanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane w/ Handy Feature   You do not see excelsior style 9 1/2s with the Handy feature very often.  They were only made for a year or so before Stanley changed the side design profile to the hump in the middle.  C. 1898 or before.  Nice enough.

Good + . . . . . $60.00        SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane in Original BoxStanley # 9 1/2 Block Plane in Original Box This is a Sweetheart era plane.  There is a hole in the top of the box because the plane was put back in with the cap up and it poked a hole in the fragile top.  The plane looks to have never been used and did not suffer any consequences of box storage for the last 70+ years.  MINT.

Excellent +. . . . . .$125.00           SOLD!

Stanley No. 9 1/2 Block Plane in BoxStanley No. 9 1/2 Block Plane in Box  Minty nice!! Well over 98% original japanning. It has seen little to no use.

Fine +. . . . . $145.00         SOLD!!

Stanley # 15 Block PlaneStanley # 9 1/2 WWII Era Block Plane  This is a WWII era plane given the lack of handy feature and cadmium plating on the trim.  It looks to have never been used.  Check out the decal on the cap.

Fine . . . . .  SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 1/2 Type 1 Tailed Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Type 1 Tailed Block Plane (PARTS)  The cap is nice.  The tail is nice, the cutter is a later replacement that is nice.  The front moveable throat looks nice, but not sure if the threads are going to be right w/ that brass screw in there.  The main body has suffered a near fatal fall at some point and now has a caved in side.  Check the pics of the back side.  The tail, cutter and cap are worth the money as parts, or it can be used as is.

Fair - / Parts . . . . .  $ 150.00      SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Type 1 Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Type 1 Block Plane   This is pretty nice overall.  The tail is nice, the cutter is long proper and nice.  The front moveable throat looks nice.  The main body is rust and pit free.  The one apology is the very small chip at the throat.

Good . . . . .  $ 375.00     SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Type 1 Tailed Block PlaneStanley #9 3/4 Type 1 Tailed Block Plane This type 1 9 3/4 looks pretty nice. The 9 1/2 was first offered in 1872 and changes in the design brought forth the type 2 in 1874.   I believe the front plate is an old replacement.  It does not have the full range of movement one would expect.  Tiny flea bites in the throat, the rest is good.  Hard to find.

Good . . . . . $295.00       SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block Plane  This c. 1890s Stanley No. 9 3/4 block plane is in fine overall condition. According to the type study and its features it is a type 10 and the first type to offer the front throat adjuster lever. It is the last excelsior style w/o the handy feature. Type 11s introduced the handy feature in the sides in 1898.

Nice near full length cutter with proper J logo. Spots of light pitting and stains on the sole. Tail and Rosewood knob are nice. This tailed block plane saw little use and spent most of its life sitting idle in a tool box. No real apologies and nice enough and unusual enough for the collection.

Fine . . . . . $325.00      SOLD!!

Stanley Type 2 9 3/4 Tailed Block Plane Stanley 9 3/4 Type 2 Tailed Block Plane  This Stanley 9 3/4 is a type 2 dating from 1874 -1875 only. They are genuinely rare. It is in fine original condition. This unusual 6" tailed block plane saw little use and has no apologies. A beautiful example for the collection.

Fine . . . . . $495.00        SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block Plane  An early excelsior style body. Overall very nice condition. Long proper marked cutter. Original finish. No issues.

Fine  . . . . . $325.00       SOLD!!

Stanley Type 1 # 9 1/2 Block PlaneType 1 Stanley  # 9 3/4 Block Plane  Stanley introduced the 9 1/2 block plane in 1872 and made the Type 1 for just 2 years before making major changes to the design.  Over the years they made a number of modifications to the design, and there is a well done and very detailed type study that has been done on these planes.

The distinguishing features are the solid cap, style of the adjustable front and body shape.  The rear handle / tail bracket is also a unique design used only on these early models.  While the 9 1/  is one of the most common of all block planes, the first model or type 1 is one of the rarest planes Stanley made.  Very few appear on the market.

Good + . . . . .$495.00        SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block Plane   This Stanley # 9 3/4 block plane is in fine condition.  No rust or pitting.  The cutter is nice. Throat good. No damage to the body.  The collector identified it as a type 9.  A hard to find block plane that is nice enough for the collection or will make a great user.   Nice!!

Good + . . . . . $350.00     SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Excelsior Body Tailed Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Excelsior Body Tailed Block Plane  This early Stanley 9 3/4 block plane is in exceptional condition with no apologies.  All original and never fiddled with.  Well over 95% of the original japanning.  I believe it is a type 6 dating from 1885.  Super!!

Fine . . . . .  $375.00       SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Tailed Block Plane   This Stanley # 9 3/4 block plane has a super looking cast brass / bronze tail that is probably shop made.  It is very nicely done  It is mounted on an early excelsior style Stanley body that has a bit of throat damage.  No other damage to the body.   Nice!!

Good - . . . . .$150.00            SOLD!

Stanley # 18 Block PlaneStanley # 18 Block Plane  This # 18 block plane is in good / used condition. Good throat area. Cap is missing nickel. Stains on sole and body with light pitting in spots. Cutter has some pitting in areas that will not affect use. It is good down where it counts. Original japanning. Lightly cleaned. A good user.

Good . . . . .  $40.00         SOLD!!

Stanley # 18 Block PlaneStanley # 18 Block Plane  This # 18 block plane is in good + / used condition. Good throat area. Lots of original japanning. It is a long cutter with the T logo. That logo and other features make it a type 12 and date it from just after the turn of the century. Cap is missing nickel. Lightly cleaned. A nice plane that will be a good user.

Good + . . . . . $45.00            SOLD!!

Stanley # 19 Block PlaneStanley No. 19 Block Plane  A Stanley No. 19 is the same as an 18 but an inch longer, or same as a 15 but with a knuckle joint cap. Or, same a a 9 1/2 but an inch longer and has a knuckle joint cap. Depending on how you look at, or think about it.

A good worker that could be cleaned up to look better.

Good . . . . . $40.00            SOLD!!

Stanley 15 1/2 Tailed Block PlaneStanley 15 1/2 Tailed Block Plane This unusual tailed plane is in very nice overall condition. Features including the handy feature date it from just after the turn of the century. The proper logo cutter is long with plenty of life left. The japanning is 95% or better and original. Good throat area. Tail looks odd in the pics, but is correct. No issues. Nice!!

Good + . . . . . $395.00         SOLD!!

Stanley 15 1/2 Tailed Block PlaneStanley 15 1/2 Tailed Block Plane This tailed plane is in very nice overall condition.  It has a nice dark patina.  The cutter is a sweetheart which I cleaned.

The 15 1/2 is like a 15, which is like a 9 1/2 but an inch longer, and has a tail, like the 9 3/4. The proper logo cutter is long with plenty of life left. The japanning is 95% or better and original. Good throat area.  No issues. Nice!!

Fine . . . . . $395.00        SOLD!!

#15 1/2 Tailed Block Plane#15 1/2 Tailed Block Plane  The collector identified this as a Stanley #15 1/2 but I am not sure if that is right given the way the throat adjuster is set up in reverse of Stanley's idea.  I would bet it was made by a competitor who used this set-up as a way around the Stanley patent.  That would make it far rarer than a typical Stanley, which is a pretty hard to find plane in its own right.  There are a couple small chips in the throat area.  Otherwise OK.

Good  . . . . .  $ 245.00           SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Excelsior Style Tailed Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Excelsior Style Tailed Block Plane  The collector identified this as a type 4.  I have been told it is more likely a type 9 with some swapped parts.  I did not carefully check that, but it sounds right.  A prior owner did carve his initials into the side rail as seen in the pics.  A nice early example of Stanley's favorite block plane with the hard to find tail that i have been told is for a later model.

Good . . . . .  $225.00     SOLD!!

Stanley Excelsior Model # 15 3/4 Tailed Block PlaneStanley Excelsior Model # 15 1/2 Tailed Block Plane  This is the same plane as above with a auxiliary tail attached that just came in on a broken body.  I want 200 for the original handle.  It is very nice.  The nut holding it on is on the verge of being stripped.   It gets tight, and then skips a thread and loosens up.   You are buying the handle only for $200 and the plane from above for $95.00.  Buy one, the other, or both.  Your Choice.

Good +  . . . . . .$ 275.00              SOLD!!

Stanley # 9 3/4 Tail Handle Block PlaneStanley # 9 3/4 Tail Handle Block Plane  This Sweetheart era Stanley No. 9 3/4 block plane is in fine condition.    It saw little use. No apologies.  Long proper cutter, nice handle, nice throat area, No apologies.  Nice enough for the collection or will be a great user.

Fine  . . . . .  $345.00         SOLD!!

Stanley # 15 Block PlaneStanley # 15 Block Plane  A WWII era block plane w/o handy feature in very nice condition. The # 15 block plane is the same as a 9 1/2 except being an inch longer. For when an extra inch makes a difference - performance wise. Just what every guy needs / wants. The lack of handy feature side dimples dates it from WWII. Very nice, and getting hard to find.

Fine . . . . . $45.00    SOLD!!

Stanley Type 7 No. 15 Block PlaneStanley Type 7 No. 15 Block Plane The collector has identified this one as a type 7 from the 1880s.  Very nice condition.

Fine. . . . . $125.00       SOLD!!

Stanley # 18 Knuckle Joint Cap Block PlaneStanley # 18 Knuckle Joint Cap Block Plane  Super condition.  95 % or better of the original japanning.  No rust or pitting. Good throat, nice cutter. Dates from the teens or so.  No condition issues.  Same as a 9 1/2 with knuckle cap.  Tune it up and go.

Good + . . . . . $45.00     SOLD!!

Stanley # 18 1/4 Block PlaneStanley # 18 1/4 Block Plane  Stanley offered this block plane for just 6 years between 1952 and 1958.  It is a hard block plane to find.  It is basically a cross between a #18 with its knuckle joint cap and a 9 1/4 w/o an adjustable front piece.  The number 18 1/4 is stamped on the side.  The condition is very nice.  All proper and ready for the collection or use.

Fine . . . . . $95.00      SOLD!!

Stanley # 18 1/4 Block PlaneStanley # 18 1/4 Block Plane  Stanley offered this model block plane for just 6 years between 1952 & 1958.  It is the same a a 9 1/4 with the addition of a knuckle cap.  It is in like new condition with just a stain on the sole.  95% or more of the original finish, and the cutter still has the original grind.    Nice!!

Fine +  . . . . . $125.00       SOLD!!

Stanley # 16 Block PlaneStanley # 16 Block Plane  This block plane is in very nice overall condition. A lite clean would make it exceptional.  Basically a 9 1/2 with Nickel trimmings. An uncommon plane that will be a great user or is nice enough for the collection.

Fine +  . . . . . $65.00     SOLD!!

Stanley # 18 Excelsior Body Block PlaneStanley # 18 Excelsior Body Block Plane  This is a Type 4 that dates from 1898.  It is an easy type to identify given the handy feature cut into the excelsior body.  They only offered this variant for one year.  The cutter is long, nice, and proper.  Lots of original japanning.  It has been lightly cleaned.  Suitable for the shelf or will be a great user after being tuned and sharpened / honed.  Nice!!

Good +  . . . . . $45.00     SOLD!!

The knob looks oversize in this pic, but i believe it is proper. They date from 1902 or earlier. The throat is nice. Miniature Nickel Plated Block Plane (201)Miniature Nickel Plated Block Plane (201)    It looks like a Stanley 201, but I do not think it is.  The nickel is original, and the plane is old, but the cutter is unmarked and there is just one cast blade support behind / under the cutter.  Probably offered by Union or Ohio, or some other more obscure maker to compete with the nickeled Stanley 201 version.  Different!!  Look at all of the pics to get a sense of just what we have here.

Good +  . . . . . .  $40.00        SOLD!!

Stanley # A 18 Aluminum Knuckle Joint Cap Block PlaneStanley # A 18 Knuckle Joint Cap Aluminum Block Plane  Nice condition.  One of Stanley's "better" ideas that was not.  Stanley produced a line of Stanley planes in Aluminum back in the 20's to mid 30's.   Most users felt they were too soft, and too light.   It was an idea that never really caught on in the market place.  Ready for the collection.
